What is AET?

AET is short for Adjective Exploration Tool, a corpus query tool with a focus on German adjectives and adverbs. The underlying database is derived from the German subset of the WMT14 corpus, which contains texts from print media. The corpus is annotated with dependency parses and several morphological, lexical, syntactic, and statistical properties of the tokens.

How to Use It

Using the Query tab, you can search for pairs of adjectives and adverbs (modifiers) and the tokens modified by them (modifiees) from the corpus, filtering by a number of properties. The query language is described in detail in the Documentation tab. You can use the boolean operators AND, OR and NOT as well as rounded brackets to create complex queries.

If you want to save your search results, you can export them as a .csv file by clicking the Export button.

The Team

AET was developed as part of a student research project at Heinrich Heine University, Düsseldorf, Germany. The project was supervised by Wiebke Petersen and Oliver Hellwig. Tatiana Bladier, Kai Koch and Esther Seyffarth designed and implemented the tool. The AET project was part of the Collaborative Research Center 991 at Düsseldorf University.
